Computer comes to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Since launching less than three months ago, Computer has performed more than $4.4B in labor-equivalent work for Perplexity users. So it comes as no surprise that users of some of the world's most popular tools for work have asked for deeper integration with Computer.

Today we're announcing Computer is now available inside Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, four Microsoft 365 apps used by people at work every day.

Earlier this month, we launched Computer in Microsoft Teams, allowing people to kick off projects in the channels where they already communicate. Now, Microsoft users have even deeper ways to use Computer.

Organizations using Microsoft 365 can use Computer for document creation, data analysis, presentation design, and email management. Powered by 20+ leading models, Computer automatically selects the right model for each task.

Seamlessly integrated into Microsoft

Before this integration, nearly 40% Computer users had already generated an output in Microsoft formats over the past 30 days. But without a native add-in, they still had to copy and paste content from Computer into tools like Microsoft PowerPoint.

This integration removes that copy-paste step. Now teams can use Computer to draft, edit, and deliver work without ever leaving Microsoft 365 apps.

When using Computer to create a report in Word on a competitor’s latest earnings or a three-statement model in Microsoft Excel, users can also pull in research from the web and connected files. Teams can also connect Computer to SharePoint and 400+ additional files and apps outside of Microsoft for richer business context.

Perplexity cites the source of every answer and the provenance of every figure, letting teams validate information before sharing.

Access from a side panel

When Computer launched in Microsoft Teams on May 4, users were able to start tasks by sending it a direct message or tagging it in a channel.

Inside Microsoft 365 apps, users can access Computer directly from a side panel in the apps after installing the add-ins.

In Excel, users launch Computer to update spreadsheets like comps, models and DCFs. For each project, teams can pull data from the web and from licensed sources like FactSet and Snowflake, with every figure cited.

In Word, users can draft, rewrite, and format content directly in the app while pulling in context from other documents, connected sources, and the web.

In PowerPoint, users can generate or rewrite slides from a Word doc, workbook, or prompt. They can also reference previous presentations to create new decks with updated content.

In Microsoft Outlook, Computer composes or rewrites emails using context from threads and attachments. It can also prepare meeting briefs and sales materials by pulling in relevant information from mailboxes, connected files, and the web.

Users can still launch tasks in Microsoft Teams chats and channels as well.

Complex workflows, simplified

Here are a few examples of what Computer can do across Microsoft 365 apps:

  • Prep the negotiation draft in Word by analyzing the latest redline against our standard template, proposing tracked‑change edits, and generating an issues list with recommended fallback clauses.

  • Build a three-statement model from a 10-K pulled via SharePoint connector, with cited line items and a cross-workbook variance check against last quarter's model.

  • Draft a customer renewal brief in Word from the Salesforce account record, the last two QBRs in SharePoint, and the deal channel history in Teams, with every claim cited

  • Create a board update deck in PowerPoint from the finance workbook in Excel, with charts pulled from named ranges and every figure cited back to the source sheet.

  • Prep for tomorrow's negotiation call in Outlook from the last six counsel threads, the attached redlines, and the playbook in SharePoint, with fallback positions and open issues.

Built for Enterprise work

Computer runs on the same, secure infrastructure as the rest of the Perplexity. The enterprise-grade security layer includes SAML SSO, audit logs, and granular admin controls.

Admins can enable Computer for the organization, scope which models it can use, and manage connectors like SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams. Enterprise data is never used for model training.

Users always remain in control. They can review any action or change or action before Computer makes it.
