Introducing Computer for Taxes
We built Computer for the kinds of problems where accuracy, speed, and judgment all matter at once.
U.S. federal taxes are a perfect example. Every year, millions of people answer the same hard tax questions, usually with more slow, painful guesswork than they would like.
Starting today, Perplexity Computer loads tax modules for U.S. federal tax questions. Computer can help with the hard parts of tax work that usually cost people the most time and money.
That can mean helping you draft a federal income tax return on official IRS forms, review a professionally prepared return, build dashboards and tools for more complex parts of the tax code, or supporting any other workflow that you want to design.

Computer now has up-to-date tax expertise
The tax code never sleeps. New laws, new forms, and new types of income create new questions faster than most tools can keep up. Frontier models can fall behind within months. A model with a cutoff date of September 2025, for example, would miss important parts of the law, including regulations implementing the OBBBA budget legislation.
That’s why we packaged tax knowledge as loadable modules inside Computer. Built on the Agent Skills protocol, these modules help Computer organize, retrieve, and apply current tax knowledge. Their guidance is grounded in IRS materials and regulations.
Draft returns for review
Even self-filing is expensive. People pay for software, spend hours doing the work, and often still need professional help when the return gets more complicated.
Computer is designed to lower that burden. Using its tax modules, it reviews tax documents, asks questions about a filer’s financial situation, and drafts a federal return on official IRS forms.
Verify work that’s already been done
Perplexity Computer for Taxes can also review a professionally prepared return for accuracy and compliance, helping you identify questions for your tax provider and confirm no money is being left on the table.

Many tax professionals are still adjusting to recent changes in tax laws. In our own testing, we found that even experienced professionals could make basic mistakes under new rules. In one attorney-prepared return, deductions under the 2025 No Tax on Overtime provisions were understated by 67%, leaving thousands of dollars unclaimed. With current tax knowledge, Computer was able to find the error and suggest the correct treatment for the user review.
The OBBBA legislation includes many provisions that are more complicated than No Tax on Overtime. As the tax industry catches up, mistakes are bound to happen. Computer helps users catch them.
Plan and optimize
Tax work often centers on documents and forms. But Computer also works with spreadsheets, apps, and websites.
It can build software for a business to track depreciation and expenses, load startup equity data into a tool that models exercise decisions, and create a dashboard to help manage deductions across a rental portfolio under passive loss rules.

Models, tools, and tax knowledge
Computer’s tax capabilities build on its core idea: frontier models become more useful when they can work inside real environments with the right domain expertise. By combining models, tools, and tax modules, Computer can help users in one of the most complicated areas of everyday finance.
