The New Comet Assistant
When we first launched Comet in July, we learned one thing right away. Users love the Comet Assistant. It’s a helper that follows you around, answers questions, and does work for you.
Over the last four months, we’ve seen users push the Comet Assistant to get more done: planning trips, researching purchases, managing job searches, eliminating to-do lists and the online chores that span endless tabs. Every use case is different, because every user is different. The Comet Assistant is agentic AI that works exclusively for you.
Today, we’re launching a completely reimagined Comet Assistant to all users. It can work longer and on more complex jobs across larger periods of time.
An assistant that works the way you do
Under the hood, we’ve given Comet Assistant new tools for perceiving and interacting with web environments, improving how your Comet Assistant makes sense of complex websites. This lowers the barrier for web developers to build compelling websites that serve users and agents alike.
Your new Comet Assistant can also take more types of actions, which means it can help you with a wider variety of tasks. It’s a natural multitasker, working across multiple tabs when something needs context from different sources. For example, many data entry tasks require you to work with both a spreadsheet and another website. Before, users had to switch back and forth between tabs to fill the spreadsheet with the right information. Comet Assistant is much more efficient because it can see and work on everything you need at the same time.
Get more done
The new Comet Assistant also works harder, not giving up easily on complex tasks. Our internal tests show it performs 23% better than its predecessor. This is helpful when your task for the assistant requires it to get many steps right, and all in the right order.
Try delegating some of these complex tasks to your upgraded Comet Assistant:
Organize your job search. Ask Comet to “Find jobs on LinkedIn for creative software companies that are looking for product managers.”

Find the best travel deals. Ask Comet to “Search a few major sites and find me the cheapest flight from San Francisco to New York next Monday."

Keep track of your child’s school attendance. Ask Comet to “Create a Google Sheet with a week by week breakdown of how often my child has been late and absent to school this year.”

User control: front and center
We’ve also improved how Comet Assistant asks for your permission. Our vision for Comet is to put users in charge of how they experience the web. Every aspect of Comet is designed to promote user choice and control.
Now, when you make a request that would work better by interacting with your browser, Comet will ask you first. You can choose whether you want Comet to run the task directly in your browser or not. Whatever you choose, Comet will follow that preference throughout the entire task.
Ask more from the internet
The internet was meant to be useful, inspiring, and fun. We’re on a mission to bring that back. With private, personal, and powerful assistants to support you, you can get more of whatever you want from the internet. We believe the world belongs to people who have more questions than answers. Every vision and every great achievement starts with a question. What will you ask your new Comet Assistant?
