Personal Computer is Available to All Mac Users

Personal Computer is now available in the new Perplexity Mac app.

Personal Computer brings Perplexity Computer to the Mac. It operates on a Mac or Mac mini, running tasks across your local files, native Mac apps, the web, and Perplexity’s secure servers.

The evolution of Computer

Perplexity began as an answer engine. Search and synthesis were powered by accurate AI, so any question gets a fast, verifiable answer. That foundation is still the heart of the product.

Comet extended this work into the browser, where we built web-first AI agents on top of the same accurate AI, running across the leading frontier models. Building Comet taught us that an agent is only as good as the system around it, the harness. Since day one, we have treated model, file, and tool orchestration as a single discipline across our products. A model-agnostic agentic harness is what makes the difference between a clever demo and an outcome you can trust.

This year, those pieces came together as Perplexity Computer: a system for turning a question into autonomous and continuously working teams of agents, accomplishing anything you can think of.

Personal Computer is the next step. It takes Computer out of the cloud-only world and onto the device where most of your real work already takes place.

Computer on your Mac

Personal Computer in the Perplexity Mac app allows Perplexity Computer to run continuously, autonomously, and locally. It can work with local files and native Mac apps, operate on the open web, and orchestrate tools, files, 400+ connectors, and personal context in a secure development sandbox on Perplexity servers.

Paired with the Comet browser, it operates web-based tools without direct connectors. Local or remote, it takes agentic operations anywhere they’re needed.

Running Personal Computer on a Mac mini creates the best experience. Teams of agents can run continuously and autonomously from a central always-on device. The continuity of the Apple ecosystem gives you freedom to control Personal Computer from anywhere. Initiate a task from your iPhone that uses local files and native apps on your Mac. Approve a human-in-the-loop request from any of your devices.

Use a Mac mini at home to keep agents working 24/7 while you focus on whatever you wish.

The result is a calmer kind of computing, where long-running work continues quietly in the background and surfaces when it needs you.

What it’s built for

Many tasks begin with a question and depend on material that lives outside the answer. A research brief draws from a folder of PDFs, a spreadsheet, and three open tabs. A writing task pulls from notes in one app and a draft in another. An analysis pulls a CSV from your Downloads folder and cross-references it against a source on the web.

Personal Computer is built for exactly that shape of work. Ask it to organize project materials across folders. Have it compare two documents and produce a summary of the differences. Let it work across native apps to assemble a draft, prepare a report, or set up the next stage of a project. Instead of a document, create a live dashboard. Meanwhile, you stay in control through approvals at the moments that matter, and Computer handles the connective tissue in between.

The new Computer on your desktop

The new macOS app gives Perplexity a permanent place on your desktop. Everyone can download the app and use it for everyday queries, attachments, and dictation. For Pro and Max subscribers, credit usage is tied to your subscription.

The new Perplexity macOS app is available to all users today, for download at the link below. It is not yet available in the App Store.

The previous Perplexity Mac app will be deprecated in the coming weeks, so we recommend downloading the new Perplexity Mac app to try Personal Computer today.
