Introducing Computer for Counsel
Lawyers are hired for their judgment and counsel. Yet too many legal professionals are now required to spend too much time on administrative tasks that don’t make use of their minds or certifications. This is the best kind of work for accurate AI for lawyers.
Today, we’re launching Computer for Counsel. It connects the research databases, document repositories, contract tools, and matter-management systems lawyers use every day to Perplexity Computer.
AI for lawyers
Computer for Counsel takes on tasks like research, document gathering, and contract triage so lawyers can focus on core legal work.
Nearly 75% of lawyers say administrative tasks are a big time challenge, a Thomson Reuters survey of lawyers found. We built Computer for Counsel for them.
Powered by 20+ frontier AI models, Computer selects the best model for the work at hand, whether it’s research, reasoning, contracts, or something else. We keep those models current through ongoing evaluation. For legal teams, this removes the pressure of having to pick a single AI platform.
Sources lawyers already trust
Lawyers rely on premium, citable sources to do their best work. Computer reasons over the open web and the sources lawyers already use every day.
Here are the premium legal research and operations sources lawyers can use:
Midpage: AI legal research and drafting platform for litigators, with full-coverage US case law across federal and state appellate courts, statutes and regulations, a proprietary citator to check if cases are still good law, and output that hyperlinks every answer to verifiable sources. Available uncapped to all Computer users.
Deel: Global HR and payroll platform for distributed teams. Maintained by in-house legal, payroll, and HR experts across 150+ countries, Deel's compliance data is free with Computer. It powers expert-vetted answers on employment law, worker classification, EOR rules, contractor compliance, immigration, and cross-border payroll obligations.
LegalZoom: Legal services platform for small businesses and consumers, covering business formation, trademarks, compliance filings, and attorney advice. Exclusive to Perplexity, LegalZoom’s custom contract template flow lets users create free customer agreements, employment contracts, and NDAs with no-login access. (Coming soon)
Midpage is available with unlimited data access. LegalZoom and Deel are available with limited access, and we’ll continue adding new premium legal sources over time.
When Computer produces an output from these and other sources, it always links back to the source, whether it’s a case, a statute, a regulation, a filing, or an internal document. This lets attorneys verify the source in seconds, before a point goes into a brief or client email.
Computer is built on Perplexity’s accurate AI search. AI evaluation benchmarks routinely find Perplexity’s Deep Research leads on accuracy. We also post-train the leading frontier models to make them more accurate and efficient inside of Perplexity.

A lot of context for legal work lives in these tools lawyers rely on every day. Computer assembles what’s relevant from these into a brief, a memo, or a deal summary. That way, lawyers always stay in the flow of work.
How lawyers are using Computer
Lawyers are using Computer across different legal practice areas including commercial, litigation, employment, intellectual property, business legal services, and more.
Examples of current workflows include:
Third party NDA intake: Computer reviews third-party NDAs for red flags, fills in entity and signatory information, prepares clean copies, and routes for approval and signature via Docusign.
Regulatory monitoring: Computer builds a shareable dashboard for US state privacy and adtech laws, shows which states have laws in effect, and cites Midpage for relevant cases.
Case research with citation review: Computer researches the enforceability of non-competes after the FTC’s 2024 ban, summarizes key cases, flags unsettled cases, and exports a PDF with citations.
The attorney stays in control
Computer takes on the work that lawyers shouldn’t be doing. Judgment and strategy always stay with the lawyer.
Computer always keeps information secure. Perplexity Enterprise doesn’t train on company data. And internal files and documents reached through App Connectors stay under the firm's control.
