Personal Computer is Coming to Windows
Today we’re announcing Personal Computer is coming to Windows.
The move brings Computer’s multi-model orchestration inside Windows machines, where most enterprise work happens. Users can ask Computer to work with their local files, native Microsoft apps, and the web, all in one place.
Last week, we launched Computer in Microsoft 365, which lets people use Computer in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Personal Computer for Windows extends that further. It improves the computing experience in at least two significant ways. Computer can now act directly on local files, so drafting, analysis, and file management happen on the Windows machine where work lives.
And people get remote coverage: Start a task on a phone, finish it on their Windows device.
Marking Computer’s growing adoption
Computer’s move into Windows, which powers well over 1 billion devices globally, is the next step for a product that’s just over two months old. Personal Computer for Mac launched last month.
Computer taps Perplexity’s multi-model system to assign a team of AI agents to carry out instructions from a single query. It’s grounded in Perplexity’s accurate AI, so every output whether a deck, a website, or an ongoing workflow, is built on cited, reliable data.
Paired with the Comet browser, Computer can also operate web-based systems to fill out forms, book appointments, schedule meetings, and perform other tasks. It requires zero technical skill to use. And it connects to 400+ tools people work in every day.
Bridging the local-web gap
Most enterprise work still happens in Windows. People build models in Excel, make decks in PowerPoint, store their files in OneDrive, and send emails in Outlook.
Moving between those local files and the web is where work can slow down. Recruiters have to copy candidate notes from a browser into Outlook, then reformat them again for a Word summary.
Finance teams have to reconcile figures across desktop Excel files, downloaded statements, and OneDrive folders before anything ships.
Personal Computer for Windows gives Computer a controlled way to work across that whole environment.
Simplifying everyday work
Computer can open local Word, Excel, or other files and work with them on the machine. It can research on the open web and orchestrate tools in the Microsoft ecosystem and outside, like in Snowflake, Salesforce, and Hubspot.
That means Personal Computer can do more on a user’s behalf. For a to-do list in Notepad, it reads each task, decides how to complete it, then works across local files, Phone Link messages, Outlook emails, connected apps, and the open web to get it done.
It can clean up a messy Downloads folder, sorting everything into File Explorer, with names and a structure that makes sense. Point it to a local Word file, ask it to compare contents against current web research, and have it update anything that’s outdated.
With voice mode, people can talk to Computer directly to have it carry out an action on the PC. Start a task in Computer from a phone. Computer on the Windows machine finishes it.
Working in every department
Some tasks Personal Computer for Windows can do:
Finance: Update a lender deck from a synced OneDrive folder on Windows by pulling the latest leverage and liquidity numbers from an Excel covenant model, writing the updated call-outs into the Word deck, and saving both files back to disk for offline access.
Legal: Finalize a closing checklist from a synced Windows deal folder, by pulling the latest dates and responsibilities from a local Excel tracker, rewriting the checklist section in the main Word agreement, and saving both to disk so the associate can work offline.
Sales: Refresh a sales proposal while a rep is on the road. They start the task from their phone, where OneDrive keeps the proposal available offline, while their Windows PC pulls updated pricing from a local Excel quote and rewrites the Word or PowerPoint pitch, syncing the new version back to both mobile and desktop.
Maintaining a secure environment
Personal Computer alerts people before it takes a sensitive action like deleting files or sending emails. A user sees what Computer is doing and can step in when needed.
Files are created in a secure sandbox and actions are auditable and reversible. People stay in control.
